Edit a PDF: add text, pictures, shapes and highlights

Fill in a form, add a note or a logo, mark up a document with arrows and highlights, or cover a mistake and type the correction. Everything is placed exactly where you put it, on any page, and the pages underneath are not redrawn, so the quality stays as it was.

    How it works

    1. Add your PDF. The first page appears with a row of tools above it.
    2. Pick a tool: Text (click and type), Picture, Rectangle, Ellipse, Line, Arrow, Highlight, White-out or Draw. Then click or drag on the page. Select anything to change its colour, size or font, move it, copy it to every page, or delete it.
    3. Press Edit PDF and download the result. Undo (Ctrl+Z) and the zoom buttons are above the page.

    What people use it for

Filling in forms that arrive as a PDF without a fillable field, adding a date, a name or a tick. Marking up a draft with arrows, circles and highlights before sending it back. Stamping a logo or a "Paid" note on a document. Correcting a wrong date or amount with a White-out and fresh text. All of it happens in your browser, so the document never leaves your device.

    Tips for neat results

Use the zoom buttons to place things exactly: the page can be enlarged up to three times. Hold Shift while drawing a line to keep it straight, or while drawing a rectangle or ellipse to make it square or round. Arrow keys move the selected item one point at a time (ten with Shift), and Ctrl+D copies it.

    Frequently asked questions

    Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. Everything happens inside your browser, on your own device. Your files are never sent to a server, and you can confirm that in your browser's network tab. Close the tab and they're gone.

Can I change the text that is already in the PDF?

Not directly: this tool adds new things on top of the page. To correct a word or a number, cover it with a White-out box and type the new text over it. For a document that needs a lot of rewriting, convert it to Word with PDF to Word, edit it there, and convert it back.

Does a White-out remove what is under it?

No. It only hides it: the original text is still inside the file and can be copied out. That is fine for fixing a typo. If you are hiding something private, use Redact PDF, which removes it for good.

What can I add to a page?

Text (in sans-serif, serif or monospace, bold, italic, underlined, in any colour and size), pictures such as a logo or a stamp, rectangles, ellipses, lines, arrows, highlights and freehand drawing. Everything can be moved, resized, restyled, brought to the front or sent behind another item, and copied to every page.

Can I type ₹ or Hindi?

Yes. A PDF's standard fonts do not hold those characters, so text that has them is added as a picture of the text. It looks right but cannot be selected. Ordinary text is added as real, selectable text.

Can I fill in a form with it?

Yes. Click where the answer goes and type it, tick a box with a drawn cross or a ✓ using Draw, and add your signature as a picture. The fields of the form are not made fillable, the answers are placed on top.

Does it work on pages that are turned, or have a cropped area?

Yes. The page is shown the way a reader shows it, and everything you add is written to match, whether the page is upright, sideways or upside down.

    Can I use a password-protected PDF?

Not directly. Use Unlock PDF on this site to remove the password (you need to know it), then add the unlocked copy here.

Is there a file size limit?

Each file can be up to 100 MB, and up to 300 MB in total. Because the work happens on your device, very large files depend on your available memory. A desktop browser handles them best.
