Redact an image: cover parts of a photo or screenshot
Drag boxes over what should not be seen, or let the search find phone numbers, email addresses, card numbers and any word you type, in the text of the picture. The covered pixels are replaced for good, so nothing can be recovered from the saved picture. It works on your device and nothing is uploaded.

Find text to black out
Opening the PDF…
Everything under a box is removed from the file, not just hidden. A page with boxes is saved as a picture, so its text can no longer be selected; pages without boxes are not touched.
Add a photo or screenshot (or several). A PDF works too.
Drag on the picture to draw a box over what must be hidden. To find text instead, open "Find text to black out", type a word or tick a kind of detail, and press Find.
Press Save the covered picture and download it. Several pictures arrive as a ZIP.
Before you post or send a screenshot
Screenshots of chats, bills, tickets and bank apps often show more than you meant to: a phone number, an account number, a name, a booking code. Look at the whole picture, cover each of those, and keep the original. A covered screenshot is safe to post; the original is not.
Frequently asked questions
Is my picture uploaded anywhere?
No. The picture or PDF is opened, read and covered inside your browser, on your own device. Nothing is sent to a server, so the Aadhaar, PAN or other document you work on never leaves your phone or computer.
Is a black box really safe?
Yes, on a picture. The pixels under the box are replaced with solid colour before the picture is saved, so there is nothing hidden under it. That is different from drawing a box over a PDF in an editor, which only hides the text under it: that is why PDFs are rebuilt too.
Why not blur instead?
Blur and pixelation can sometimes be reversed or guessed, especially for short numbers and text, and a light blur hides little. A solid box cannot be undone, so it is the only cover used here.
What can the search find in a picture?
It reads the words in the picture first, then finds any word you type and the usual personal details: email addresses, phone numbers, Aadhaar, PAN, account and card numbers, IFSC codes and dates. It reads best on a sharp, straight picture of printed text; always look through the boxes before you save.
Will the picture keep its quality and size?
A picture is saved at its own size. A JPG is saved again as a JPG, so it is encoded once more at high quality (92%), and a PNG stays a PNG. The details stored in the photo, such as the date, the camera and the location, are not carried into the new picture, which is better for privacy.
Does it work on iPhone photos?
Yes. HEIC photos are opened in every browser, and saved as JPG.
Is there a file size limit?
Each file can be up to 100 MB, and up to 300 MB in total. Because the work happens on your device, very large files depend on your available memory. A desktop browser handles them best.
