    When to watermark a PDF

Watermarks are handy for drafts that should not be mistaken for the final version, for documents shared for review, and for copies sent to someone who should not treat them as originals.

    Frequently asked questions

    Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. Everything happens inside your browser, on your own device. Your files are never sent to a server, and you can confirm that in your browser's network tab. Close the tab and they're gone.

    Can the watermark be removed?

The text is added on top of each page. Someone with PDF editing software may be able to remove it, so treat it as a clear label and a deterrent, not as security.

    Can I use non-English text?

Currently the watermark supports standard Latin characters: letters, numbers and common symbols. Other scripts are not supported yet.

Can I add a logo or image?

Not yet. This tool adds text watermarks only.

How do I keep the page readable?

Use a low opacity such as 20%, and a light colour like grey. The text stays visible without hiding the content underneath.

Is there a file size limit?

Each file can be up to 100 MB, and up to 300 MB in total. Because the work happens on your device, very large files depend on your available memory. A desktop browser handles them best.

    Can I use a password-protected PDF?

Not directly. Use Unlock PDF on this site to remove the password (you need to know it), then add the unlocked copy here.
