How it works
- Add your PDF. For a scan or a photo of pages, leave "Read scanned pages" ticked and choose the language.
- Check the preview of the first page.
- Press Convert to Word and download the .docx file.
Convert a PDF into a Word file you can edit. The text comes across with its fonts, sizes, colours, lists and pictures, ready to change in Word, Google Docs or LibreOffice. It all happens in your browser, so your PDF is never uploaded.
Files stay on your device. Free, with no sign-up.
Preparing preview…
Nothing left your device.
Text with its font, size, colour, bold and italic; paragraphs, headings and alignment; bulleted and numbered lists; superscripts and subscripts; pictures; repeated headers and footers, including page numbers; and the page size and margins.
Open the Word file and look through it. Tables are brought across as text lines with tab stops rather than as Word tables, columns of text are kept in place with spacing, and drawings and shapes are not carried over. The result lists anything that was left out.
No. Everything happens inside your browser, on your own device. Your files are never sent to a server, and you can confirm that in your browser's network tab. Close the tab and they're gone.
Close, but not identical, and that is true of every PDF to Word converter. A PDF only says where each piece of text sits on the page, so this tool rebuilds paragraphs, headings, lists and alignment from that. Simple documents such as letters, reports and articles come across well. Tables, multi-column pages and forms may need some tidying in Word.
Yes. Font names, sizes, bold and italic, text colours and pictures are carried over. If a font is not installed on the computer that opens the Word file, Word shows a similar one.
Yes. A scanned PDF is a set of pictures of pages, so the text has to be read from them first. With "Read scanned pages" ticked (it is by default), every page that is only a picture is read with OCR, in the language you choose, and the words go into the Word file. Pages that already have text are used as they are. OCR is very good on clean printed pages and weaker on handwriting, crooked photos and small print, so check the result for mistakes. You can also make the scan searchable first with OCR PDF.
Not directly. Use Unlock PDF on this site to remove the password (you need to know it), then add the unlocked copy here.
Text is read as the PDF stores it, so any language that the PDF contains as real text comes across. Word needs a font that has those letters on the computer that opens the file.
A PDF can be up to 100 MB and up to 500 pages.
