How to reorder, rotate and delete PDF pages

A PDF that is in the wrong order, with a page upside down, is a quick fix when you can see every page at once. Here is how to tidy one, and one thing to check when you remove a page.

Rearranging in a few steps

  1. Add the PDF to Organize PDF. Every page shows as a small picture.
  2. Drag a page to where it belongs, or use the arrows under it. On a phone, the arrows are the easier way.
  3. Turn a sideways page with the turn button. Copy a page that you need twice.
  4. Add a blank page where a separator or a signature page is needed.
  5. Remove the pages you do not want. They stay in the list, dimmed, so you can put one back before you save.
  6. Press Make PDF and look through the new file once.

Are removed pages really gone?

Not always. Some tools only take a page out of the list of pages while its text and pictures stay inside the file, so the file does not get smaller, and anyone who knows how can still pull the page out. That matters when you remove a page because it holds an address, an account number or a signature.

Organize PDF and Remove PDF Pages here drop the removed page completely. A quick check: the new file should be visibly smaller when the removed pages held pictures.

Before you send it

  • Scroll through the new file once, from the first page to the last.
  • Check that a page you turned reads the right way up, and that page numbers printed on the pages still make sense after the reordering.
  • Keep the original file until you are sure, since the new one is a separate copy.

When a different tool is quicker

  • To remove pages by number from a long file, such as "3, 7-9", use Remove PDF Pages.
  • To turn every page the same way, use Rotate PDF.
  • To combine files first, use Merge PDF, then arrange the result.
  • To cut a file into parts, use Split PDF.
